When approached with the idea of tartan cookies for a Scottish tartan-themed anniversary party, I of course said, "Sure, I think we can do that!" Thus began my tartan education. Despite the fact that both and Andrew and I have Scottish roots, neither of us knew that there were so many different tartans out there, and with so many stories behind each one. Every Scottish clan has its own tartan, and most have very long and interesting histories. There are many websites devoted to categorizing and classifying tartans, which made it easy for us to find some clear pictures of the tartans belonging to the surnames we were provided with for the tartan cookie favours. After experimenting with several piping tips and layers of icing, I happily discovered that thankfully, icing tartan turns out much better than my attempts at sketching the tartans during the planning process. So any of you with Scottish ancestery who are looking to incorporate a little family history in your special events, take note! The Steveston Cookie Company can hereby create your clan tartan in icing :)

Happy Thanksgiving! The Steveston Cookie Company is wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving :) We hope you have a relaxing long weekend full of turkey and pumpkin pie! If you're looking for a break from all of the feasting (and cooking!) then stop by the very last Steveston Farmers and Artisans Market of 2009 on Sunday October 11th. It will be a great opportunity to pick up some fresh produce for your turkey dinners, and cookies for your Thanksgiving table. If we don't see you there, you can still find us at the Steveston Christmas Craft Fair on November 28th, and we'll be back at the Market in the spring. For cookie orders and inquiries, please don't hesitate to email us at [email protected]. Have a great weekend! -Mika and Andrew |
