Wedding Spotlight: Nicole and Dan 04/19/2011
Back in March we had the pleasure of traveling to Mexico for the wedding of our good friends Nicole and Dan. Forty-five guests flew out, and we had an amazing time soaking up sunshine and good times with friends in tropical Playa del Carmen. The weather was amazing (of course) and the setting couldn't have been more beautiful for such a lovely event. The ceremony itself took place in a gazebo overlooking the azure surf beyond, and the reception followed into the night in an amazing open-air, thatch-roofed patio. The colours for the wedding were fresh green and bright pink, which complemented the tropical location beautifully. The bridesmaids wore green, and carried gorgeous bouquets of white and pink stargazer lilies. We were thrilled when Nicole asked us to create some custom wedding cookie favours for her reception place settings. In her wedding stationary, table numbers, and even shower invitations (created by another crafty friend) Nicole used an adorable, yet elegant pink starfish motif. We experimented with some different options, and Nicole settled on a white square cookie with a dotted edge, names in green to match the font on her invitations, and pink starfish to match her theme. The cookies made it safely to Mexico and helped round out the table decor. We had a fabulous time (and maybe momentarily considered changing The Steveston Cookie Company to the Playa del Carmen Cookie Company) and wish our dear friends a lifetime of happiness... Congratulations Nicole and Dan! -Mika 1 Comment Officially it may have been the Year of the Tiger, but for me 2010's animal inspiration of choice was the owl. Those funny birds found their way into my jewelry, home decor and of course, cookies. This year, I'm already feeling more in line with the zodiac's official choice of beast. The year of the rabbit is supposed to bring calm after a volatile tiger year... I'm not too well-versed on the exact fortunes, but peace and stability sound good to me! What I do know is that the rabbit would be an adorable motif for anyone celebrating a 2011 wedding! A quick search on etsy.com yielded some squeal-inducing results for Alice in Wonderland/white rabbit wedding shower tea parties, and rabbit jewelry for flower girls and bridesmaids. Packages of mini rabbit cookies could be customized in any colour scheme, and with monograms and other pretty designs to make a great wedding favor or shower thank you favour. For that matter, these would be great baby shower favours too! Babies born in the Year of the Rabbit are supposed to be blessed with sunny dispositions and good fortune. We wish you good luck planning your Year of the Rabbit events... we'll be waiting for our phone call from Prince William and Kate Middleton... I'm sure they'll be wanting rabbit cookie wedding favours for their April 2011 wedding. One can dream :) Happy New Year! -Mika Wedding Spotlight: Brock and Thyra 08/27/2010
![]() Brock and Thyra's wedding was one of many this summer for which we had the privilege of creating some cookie favors! They decided on a colour scheme based on a regal purple, a very popular colour for weddings this year. Their lovely invitations were not blue and black as my poor quality photo suggests, but rather white with a purple edge and a swirl motif. The bridesmaid dresses were purple and gorgeous, and all of the flower arrangements and bouquets featured some dark purple blooms as a base with brighter pink accents. To round out this theme, we created cookie favors with a white cake shape, dark purple text and a variation of the swirl motif from the invitations. Purple satiny ribbon finished them off and provided a nice extention of their colour scheme for each place setting on the tables. Finally, remembering how hungry we were after neglecting the delicious buffet at our own wedding in all of the excitement, Andrew and I put together a little snack basket for the couple to be sent to their hotel room in case they felt the same way. We put in some extra wedding favors and a dozen of Grandma Nam's Classic Choc Chip, along with some tea from one of our favourite gift shops in Steveston. Yum! Congratulations Brock and Thyra and wishing you all the best for a long and happy life together :) -Mika Scottish brides and grooms, take note! 10/21/2009
![]() When approached with the idea of tartan cookies for a Scottish tartan-themed anniversary party, I of course said, "Sure, I think we can do that!" Thus began my tartan education. Despite the fact that both and Andrew and I have Scottish roots, neither of us knew that there were so many different tartans out there, and with so many stories behind each one. Every Scottish clan has its own tartan, and most have very long and interesting histories. There are many websites devoted to categorizing and classifying tartans, which made it easy for us to find some clear pictures of the tartans belonging to the surnames we were provided with for the tartan cookie favours. After experimenting with several piping tips and layers of icing, I happily discovered that thankfully, icing tartan turns out much better than my attempts at sketching the tartans during the planning process. So any of you with Scottish ancestery who are looking to incorporate a little family history in your special events, take note! The Steveston Cookie Company can hereby create your clan tartan in icing :) -Mika Livingston | Cookie BlogWhat's happening in the world of The Steveston Cookie Company!
